Well, he is a born again Christian | Husband To One Wife | Dad To Be | DJ | VJ | Music Producer | Radio Presenter & Live Sound Engeneer.
He was born in the early 1980s and grew up in Nairobi through out the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s. He always enjoyed music from a young age at around 10 years old. He listened to radio and watched the music that came on television. That was the way we heard music back then. There were no cell phones or tablets back then but, at least we had pay phone. Raise your hand if you know what pay phones are hehe?
If a show was going on air at 1 pm on Saturday, we had to wait a whole week just to listen to it again. There was no youtube to listen to what you want when you want. Its different from now. You feel me?
So moving on he learnt how to dj around 12 years. His uncle DJ Bob from Jamhuri Productions New Jersey USA, taught me. He used to take him to the club where he was spinning and he would watch him do his thing.
They used turntables back then to dj and those things took time to learn. Funny thing is it did not take DJ Octave long to learn. His uncle taught him how to play using the turntable as people were dancing on the dancefloor. His uncle gave him the songs to play sometime and sometimes he would select a song or two.
He is very greatful to DJ Bob for the lessons and opportunity. It went on till he cleared primary school.
When he went to secondary school in Moi Forces Academy, holla if you went to MFA, his uncle went to the states and there was no more djing again during high school but the interest and passion was there.
It was in high school that DJ Octave came to meet and to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and saviour in Form 3. This mean’t that he had to stop listening to secular music. He loved that music so much though so it was not easy to let go but The Lord was good and gracious and he let the music go. DJ Octave had to dispose off aal the collection of the secular music he had. Tapes upon tapes upon tapes and cds upon cds as well. Those days a cd was I think KSh1,200 a piece. Dispite the cost there was now no music to listen to.
He did not know that there was gospel music till Family FM and Hope FM came up. But even then there was no music that was his kind of music. Not that praise and worship was bad, he liked that music but it was just not meeting a certain taste that he had. Until Kubamba Krew with DJ Moz and his crew Njugush, DJ Soxxy and the rest came on radio at Hope FM.
Waaaahhh the sho was fiiiirrreeeeeeee hehehe. Big up to you DJ Moz man for brigning fresh music on radio. Playing akina Lecrae, TR, Cross Movement, Da’ T.R.U.T.H., Mary Mary, The Ambasador, Ruff Tone, Gospel Fathers, Sita, Henry Mutoko and many many more. Salute to the K-Krew. Without you guys he would probably not been a DJ today like honestly and surely there must be a number of people who have the same feeling.
So fast forward we are doing these gigz that DJ Octave was a part of
